PUA30601 Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)

This qualification is designed for individuals wishing to further their level of knowledge and skills in Firefighting. Participants will ideally be currently engaged in Firefighting activities in the community or workplace, or looking to enter this industry.

This qualification is designed for organisations and individuals responsible for public safety and for those working in public safety roles including;

  • Mines rescue crew personnel
  • Emergency response teams
  • Emergency incident controllers
  • Paramedics
  • Fire service personnel; and
  • Any individuals responsible for participating in rescue operations
Prerequisites: 

A number of units within this qualification have prerequisites.

Course Outcomes: 

Participants achieving this qualification will develop skills and knowledge in;

  • Participating in suppressing urban fires, including wildfires
  • Managing injuries at emergency incidents
  • Rendering hazardous materials incident safe
  • Participating in a rescue operation and providing emergency care
  • Administering oxygen in an emergency situation

  • PUAFIR306A - Render hazardous material incidents safe
  • PUAFIR308A - Employ personal protections at a hazardous materials incident
  • PUAFIR309A - Operate pumps
  • PUAVEH001A - Drive vehicles under operational conditions
  • PUAEME002B - Manage injuries at emergency incident
  • PUAOHS002A - Maintain safety at an incident site
  • PUATEA002A - Work autonomously
  • PUAEME003B - Administer oxygen in an emergency situation

  • PUAFIR307A - Monitor hazardous atmospheres
  • PUASAR002A - Undertake road accident rescue
  • PUAFIR303A - Suppress wildfire
Qualification Rules: 

To be awarded this qualification, the student must successfully complete 12 units of competency, 9 Core units, and 3 Elective units.

Accreditation and Articulation: 

Upon successful completion of this course students will receive a PUA30601 Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations).

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Pathways from the Qualification: 

After achieving the PUA30601 Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations), students may undertake the PUA40301 Certificate IV in Public Safety (Firefighting Supervision), or a range of other Certificate IV qualifications.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): 

A formal process for recognising skills and knowledge, RPL takes into account previous studies you may have completed as well as life and work experiences. You may be granted credits or exemptions for some units in this course.
