PUA20601 Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)

This qualification is designed for organisations and individuals responsible for public safety and is suitable for people who are working for a fire agency or in an emergency response team and need to acquire the basic competencies required by fire-fighters to perform a range of varied activities such as fighting structural fires and to respond to rescue incidents.  This may include Production Workers, Supervisors and Maintenance Staff or any individuals who are required to be the first response to an emergency situation.

Prerequisites: 

There are no prerequisite requirements for individual units of competency.

Course Outcomes: 

Participants achieving this qualification will develop skills and knowledge in;

  • How to operate independently, adapting and transferring skills and knowledge to new environments and applying effective response tactics to specific emergencies
  • How to operate breathing apparatus open circuit
  • Working effectively within a team
  • Participating in a rescue operation and providing emergency care

Qualification Rules: 

To be awarded this qualification, the student must successfully complete 11 units of competency, 8 Core units, and 3 Elective units.

Accreditation and Articulation: 

Upon successful completion of this course students will receive a PUA20601 Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations).

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Pathways from the Qualification: 

After achieving the PUA20601 Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations), students may undertake the PUA30601 Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations), or a range of other Certificate III qualifications.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): 

A formal process for recognising skills and knowledge, RPL takes into account previous studies you may have completed as well as life and work experiences. You may be granted credits or exemptions for some units in this course.
