Learning Lab specialises in OHS training in Sydney for OHS committees and representative to enhance their skills for better application of workplace OHS consultation.

This OHS training course has been designed to meet the training requirements for the OHS committees and OHS representatives, as stated in the NSW OHS Regulation 2001.  It aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply the principles of the workplace OHS consultation.  It also serves to develop appropriate attitudes to enable OHS committee members and OHS representatives to effectively carry out their functions under OHS legislation.

Prerequisites: 

The NSW OHS Act 2000 and OHS Regulation 2001 require employers to consult with employees on workplace safety matters via three consultation arrangements. Three consultation arrangements are covered by the legislation which a business can choose from; OHS Committee(s), OHS Representative(s) and alternative arrangements to be agreed upon by employees and management.

An employer must ensure that each member of the OHS committee and each OHS representative (both management and employees) undertake OHS Consultation training within three calendar months of election or appointment.

here are no formal prerequisite requirements for this OHS training course. However, applicants should have appropriate work experience, which contributes to the development of skills and understanding in some or all of the following;

  • OHS management systems and day-to-day workplace safety
  • OHS acts, regulations, codes of practice, standards and rules
  • Safety inspections, hazard identification survey
Course Outcomes: 

Participants achieving this qualification will develop skills and knowledge in;

  • Explaining the requirements for effective management of health and safety and the importance of OHS consultation
  • Detailing the requirements for consultation under the NSW OHS Act 2000
  • Outlining effective communication techniques throughout the consultation process
  • Detailing the requirements for effective OHS management systems (OHSMS), their development implementation, audit and review
  • Demonstrating the practical application of OHS risk management through work based activity (action learning exercise)
  • Explaining the need for continuous improvement in OHS through consultation and providing the means for implementation, monitoring and evaluation of this process

  • measuring the effectiveness of OHS committees and reps

Summary

Qualification Rules: 

To be awarded this Certificate, students must successfully complete all 6 units.

Accreditation and Articulation: 

A WorkCover Accredited Certificate will be issued on the completion of the course.

This course is accredited by the Vocational Education & Training Board of NSW (VETAB).

Pathways from the Qualification: 

After completing this certificate, students may undertake the BSB41407 Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): 

A formal process for recognising skills and knowledge, RPL takes into account previous studies you may have completed as well as life and work experiences. You may be granted credits or exemptions for some units in this course.
